Jaipur the Pink City (An Introduction)

Jaipur, the "Pink City" and also called "Paris of India" was founded on 18th November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, a Kachawaha Rajput, who ruled on Jaipur State from 1699-1744. Initially Its capital was Amber (now pronounced as Amer), lies at a distance of 11 km from Jaipur.  Jaipur is worldwide famous for unique Architecture,  Vastu, Astrology, Forts, Monuments, Palaces, Art and Craft, Culture  and last but not least for unique Food.

Jaipur Architecture, Vastu and Astrology:-

The city is known for its beauty, and it is unique in its straight-line planning. The directions of all the streets and markets in Jaipur are East to West and North to South. Jai Singh II made sure that the entire Jaipur city was planned as per the Hindu architectural theory. The town is constructed in the form of eight-part Mandala which is called Pithapada Its buildings are predominantly rose-coloured, and it is sometimes called the “pink city.” The chief buildings are the City Palace, part of which is home to the royal family of Jaipur; Jantar Mantar, an 18th-century open-air observatory that was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010; Hawa Mahal (Hall of Winds); Ram Bagh palace; and Nahargarh, the Tiger Fort. Other public buildings include a museum and a library. Jaipur is the seat of the University of Rajasthan, founded in 1947.

Jaipur Geography and Climate:-

Jaipur has a semi-arid climate. Temperatures vary here in different seasons. In the summer months of April to June, average daily temperature remains around 35 degree Calcius in Jaipur. May and June are the hottest months in Jaipur. Temperature reaches up to 40-45 degree Calcius in these months.

Annually the rainfall is concentrated in the monsoon months between June (Last of June) and September. It receives over 500 mm (approx 20 inch) of rainfall an average.

The city is surrounded by fertile alluvial plains to the east and south and hill chains and desert areas to the north and west. Bajra (pearl millet), barley, gram (chickpeas), pulses, and cotton are the chief crops grown in the region. Iron ore, beryllium, mica, feldspar, marble, copper, and garnet deposits are worked. In addition to Amer, other nearby attractions include Sariska National Park to the northeast.

Jaipur is known as Heritage City because of its rich heritage culture, customs, traditions, fairs and festivals, civilization, and hundreds years old forts and monuments. The glorious architecture of Jaipur the Pink City is renowned across the world. Wonderful Forts and Monuments garland the entire city in a planned manner.

As per the latest census the city includes a total population of 32,60,516 with approximately 77% of its inhabitants being Hindus, around 17% being Muslims, 4.5% being Jains, 1% being Sikhs and 0.5% being Christians. The sex ratio in Jaipur is 909 females per 1,000 males and the population density per square kilometer is 598. Hindi, Rajasthani and Marwari are the common languages spoken in the city. English and Punjabi are also spoken widely here.

The main tourist attractions of Jaipur are Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, City Palace, Shri Govind Dev Ji Temple, Shri Moti Dungri Ganesh Ji Temple, Amber (Amer Fort), Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort, Jal Mahal, Birla Temple, Albert Hall Musuem, Gattor, Galta Ji (Holi Palace for Hindu Devotees  and Rani Sisodiya Gardens. 

In the surroundings of Jaipur major Temples Shri Khatu Shyam Ji (90 Kms far), Samod Balaji (30 Kms far), Sariska Tiger Reserve (85 Kms far) and Bhangarh (The Most Haunted Place) (80 Kms far) are situated. 

Why Jaipur is called as "Pink City" ?
The city encompasses various magnificent edifices that enhance its beauty. Its forts and monuments such as Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jal Mahal, Rambagh Palace, Nahargarh Fort, Jaigarh Fort and Amber Fort are famous world over. The structures here are built with the rare pink-painted sandstone and it is thus known by the name Pink City. While Jai Singh II worked hard on planning and developing the city, his successors continued to work towards its betterment. The Britishers also contributed their bit and gave it an urban touch in the 19th century. The Mubarak Mahal in the Palace Complex, the Rajasthan School of Arts and the Vidhan Sabha were constructed during the British reign.

Art and craft prospered here in the presence of such talented artisans. Jaipur is famous for Bhandhani, Block printing, Kinari, Gota, Zari and Zardozi. Jaipur’s Blue pottery, Ivory carving, Silver, Kundan and Meenakari jewelry are also popular.

Folk music and dance are other major attractions of this city. Ghoomar, where the women perform dance wearing colorful flowing ghagharas and Chari, where the dancers perform with pots including lit diyas on their head are a visual delight for the audience. The Jaipur Gharana for Kathak is also famous.

The melodious music of instruments such as Sarangi, Jhalar and Ektara adds to the overall experience of listening to the traditional Rajasthani folk songs.

Food in Jaipur:-

Jaipur offers some mouthwatering cuisines. Dal Bati Churma, Missi Roti and the exceptionally large pyaaz kachori are among the popular dishes prepared here. Those of you who love sweets must try the delicious Ghevar, Chaugani ke laddu and Moong thal available here.

Festivals in Jaipur:-

Jaipur organizes several fairs and celebrates various festivals including the Gangaur festival, Teej festival, Jaipur Literature Festival, Chaksu Fair, Elephant Fair and Shitla Mata Fair

Education:-

There are as many as eight universities in Jaipur including the prestigious University of Rajasthan, The LNM Institute of Information Technology, Jaipur, National Institute of Ayurveda and Malviya National Institute of Technology. Each year several students from across the country enroll to various programs at these universities.

Itinerary

Day 1 :- (Explore Jaipur "The Pink City" - 80 Kms):-

We will pick up you from your Hotel / Airport or Railway Station and then start your trip to the World Heritage City know as Pink City and Paris of India. All of the first we will see all the three forts viz. Amber (Amer) Fort, Jaigarh Fort and Nahargarh Fortr in around 4 and half hours all the three Forts can be visited. After this we will come to Jalmahal where we will stop the vehicle for taking some snapshots of you and your group.

After having the lunch on the way, we will further proceed to the main Heritage City of Jaipur which consists City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal. After visiting all the above place we will leave your for shopping in the local market. After 2 Hours shopping, we will drop you to your hotel for having rest in the night. 

Day 2 :- (Visit Shri Khatu Shyam Ji  and Samod Balaji Temples - 210 Kms):- 

After having the Breakfast at hotel, we will today proceed to visit Shri Khatu Shyam Ji Temple after darshan return to Jaipur. On the way, you may also like to visit Shri Samod Balaji Temple. In the evening we will drop you at the hotel. 

Day 3 :- (Explore Jaipur "The Pink City" -  80  Kms):-

After having the Breakfast at hotel, we will proceed to visit the remaining places of Jaipur which includes, Albert Hall Musuem, Gattor, Birla Temple, Moti Doongri Ganesh Temple, Rani Sisodiya Garden and Patrika Gate.

After having the lunch on the way, we will further proceed to the main Heritage City of Jaipur to visit the remaining places if any which consists City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal. After visiting all the above place we will leave your for shopping in the local market.

In the afternoon if you have a flight or traing, we will accordingly drop you to the right place. 

If you are staying in Jaipur further, In the evening you may like to go Chokhi Dhani Resorts for dinner and to see the ethnic cultural village and dances of Rajasthan.  After dinner we will drop you to your Hotel.
