Ajmer the city has been made with 2 words viz Ajay & Meru - Ajay means the king & founder of the City. Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan found the City Ajmer in 7th Century A. D and continued to be a major centre of the Chauhan Power till 1193 A.D. when Prithviraj Chouhan was killed by Mohammed Gaure. After this Ajmer Dargah was built in the year 1193 and was completed till 1236 A. D. In present time Ajmer is a popular pilgrimage centre for Hindus, Muslims and Jains.
